Hello:

First let me thank the many of you of whom I've read while lurking and learning!

This is the first time that I've set up a brackish aquarium, completely fueled by my young son's obsession with getting a violet goby. After cycling a 40G, I first added 3 x BBG's, then two weeks later added the VG. I keep the SG to about 1.005. So far, so good!

The aquascape is black aragonite with large chunks of lacerock to make it look like a reef (a "poor man's reef"!) I'd like to add interesting "reef-like" creatures to the tank like crabs, shrimp, and snails.

To start, I'd like some snails that would sift the sand and eat detritus. Since I'm in Southern California, I've been looking at dealers like snailsbymail.com and azgardens.com. Snails by Mail has a brackish snail page at: http://snailsbymail.tripod.com/Brackish/sbm_brackish.htm .

What information I could find on the net seems to be contradictory. I'm most interested in the Nassarius Vibex or the Nassarius Obsoletus but they seem to be more suited for full marine than light brackish, so I suspect their brackish tendencies would be high brackish? Has anybody had them thrive in 1.005 SG?

Also, I can't seem to find much information about low brackish fully aquatic crabs let alone find a US dealer for something like C. africanus. Any suggestions on dealers or if low brackish would be appropriate? Can anybody identify what Snails by Mail is calling a "right handed hermit" at the bottom of their brackish page?

If neither snails above are appropriate I will most likely buy some MTS's off Ebay.

Thanks!

Spending more time online it seems that both Nassarius vibex and Nassarius obsoletus require much higher SG and Nassarius obsoletus is really a cold water snail. It looks like MTS for me!

Anybody know of a US dealer for Clibinarius africanus?

Thanks!
