this morning i discovered my full grown oscar dead in his 75 gallon tank! I checked all the stats and everything was fine......... i think there could have been some chemicals like windex that could have entered the tank cause my mom was cleaning the windows bay windows right next to the next the night before! :-( it would have been easy for some windex to get into the tank because there is a big hole in the hood which used to be for an aquaclear 500 (wrong # i think but its the biggest ac available) now replaced by a fluval canister. poor oscar i had him sine he was only 1 inch long!

my head is dizzy because now i have a 25 gallon to stock with one wimple piranha (moved from my 55 gallon tank, no it wont outgrow this tank) a 55 gallon brackish tank, a 75 gallon oddball tank and now ANOTHER 75 gallon tank. ill probally sell it

JUST TALKED TO MY MOM ON THE PHONE AND SHE SAID THAT THERE WAS A LITTLE WINDEX THAT GOT INTO THE TANK BUT SHE DIDNT WANT TO WAKE ME UP BECAUSE I WAS SICK! she evidently was refilling the spray bottle and some windex was spilled and some got into the tank. poor oscar :-( im gonna miss him

>_< I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Please don't blame your mom though, I believe she cares more about your health than the health of a fish.

Oh no, I'm so sorry!!! I'm very attached to my oscar, so I know how you must feel :-(
If you want another large cichlid like that to fill the empty tank you should go for a red devil or midas... That's what I would do if I were you, I don't think I could stand to just leave the empty tank sitting around.

Or you could try something completely new!
But I agree with Synirr if you still want to do a larger cichlid.

I really dont mid it sitting around its actually a break because I have a empty 55 gallon (soon to be a brackish, planted, "community") a empty 25 gallon (new home for my wimple piranha, planted) a empty 75 gallon (soon to be a planted ropefish tank) and the 75 that the oscar used to be in (either sell it or make a mud skipper tank) so as you can see im packed to the gills with stocking, cycling, and all that good stuff.

You could maybe try a marine tank, they have unlimited ways of stocking, especially for a tank that size. But a mudskipper tank sounds really cool, they are extremly personable. As well as Synirr's suggestion. Or, you could maybe turn it into a brackish and have some kind of eel, like a snowflake moray, ect. Really neat.

I cant stand it when my siblings/parents disregard my advice. I am the only one in my house, save my dad, that knows a thing about fish. Ive lost so many fish because of important advice or instructions that has been sluffed off :grr: including a beautiful little elephant nose :grr: :grr: and my prized hawkfish :grr: :grr: :grr:

I am attached to my oscars too. Its kind of strange that he died of a little windex, especially at his size and with your filter. Although, its never happened to me, so i cant be sure.
