No, do it longer, you really have to make him mad. Sometimes they won't show the beard if they don't see the need. He's light also, maybe not so agressive like mine.

Nope couldn't get a beard flare out of him/her. Attacked the mirror a couple of times, but no flare. Ended up with another girl hanging off the end of my finger though.

Maybe not a male then.

Go study the flare's I've posted, especially Fugly's and Fuglier's. Those are PK male flare's. Pretty has an interesting one too. Not quite female, not quite male...

My new female, just does the fins, no beard, no gill flaps. I'm about 95% sure she's female.

Ahah, yeah he flares just like that! I just got him to do that.. So when I say he, do you think i'm correct?

Though funnily enough "he's" been put in with my male before as we were interesting in breeding them together, and it's the only female we never got to spawn, but the male never really fought with him.

Would a VT male maybe not notice a PK male to be a male? Or just not find him threatening as he's much smaller.

No, they'd notice. Supposedly PK are more agressive than VT, but honestly, I'm not going to put a PK with a VT and find out. All the fish in the LFS tank were probably siblings or were in the same grow out tank, so they were used to each other and already sorted out any differences. Not normal circumstances for the average hobbiest or where the average hobbiest gets their bettas from.

Also, look at it this way. Fugly, Pretty, and Fuglier were all in the same tank at the LFS. I don't know for how long. Fugly was in charge, Fuglier was with the females, and Pretty was in the corner and with the females. Bettas don't go out on Death rampages, they guard their territory and that's it. No reason to fight if territories are established. There was probably fighting in the beginning and Fugly won. Pretty was too small to challenge, and Fuglier probably lost the challenge.

What's getting me now, is that I possibly a PK male named Pretty. Oh poor guy. Will have to dub him Fugliest

Well these came from P@H so they could've been wild, could've came from anywhere really. I know their stockist is in china.

When I picked up the 3 light coloured "females" they'd been in the tank a matter of hours, as we collected them the day they were delivered to the store, the minute quarantine was over, they were the only girls in the tank.
