Age really depends on the other fish. Usually a good rule is when they are too big to fit in the biggest fish's mouth, or maybe a little after so they do not get bullied.

Yep, would say for most tanks I've heard a half inch is minimum.

You sure its not 1gallon? 1litre is veeery small, we are talking like betta cups here.
The basic rule with guppy fry and other fry is put them into the main tank when they are large enough not to fit into other fish's mouths, if you just have other guppys in the tank the fry will be fine once they are a third or slightly less grown.
