I have 2 pregnant female sward tails in my 29 gal. community tank. they are abou 2.5 weeks into pregnacy and im not sure what to do eaither get a smaller tank to raise them to maturity and if so what kind of filtration do they need. or should i get a net breeder or a breeding trap?

A small tank for the fry would be great. Sponge filters work well, so the fry won't get sucked up. Another option is a small hang-on-back filter, with some kind of netting over the intake so the fry can't get sucked in.

Good luck!

What other fish do you have in your tank and is it well planted? Are you planning on raising 30+ fry from each female? I've never used a breeding trap as I heard it causes a lot of stress towards the mother and may even end up killing her. Plus, I've had a catfish actually jump into the breeding net and eat all the fry in the net when I was sleeping. :grr:

If you don't have any catfish in your tank or fry-loving fish, I'd let them have birth in their main tank as long as there are plants and lots of places to hide.

Or you can get a 10 gallon set-up and put the two females in there to have their babies.
