Im after advice on how to filter my fry tank that i've been forced to set up by the arrival of a platy fry, he is in a heated 17L tank on his own, tiny bit of substrate in there and no filter,i did have my elite mini (sold with the tank) in there but even on its lowest setting that filter creates a lot of current. Im after something cheap and easy.

How much ammonia will a single fry create in a 17L tank anyway? although to be fair its probably going to be lots of waste food creating the ammonia, ill do dailly water changes until i can get some type of filter cycled.

What do i do about aerating the water without a filter too? how quickly will the O2 level drop with just him in there?

ive got a cheap sponge filter running off a airpump for my fry tank when they ready to drop

yeah, all you will need is a sponge one, that way you dont have to worry about the fry being killed.... you would still have to cycle it though, it is probably to late now, but what i would have done is ran the sponge filter in an existing tank for 6 weeks and then switch it over

anyone able to recomend a suitable airpump to go with the sponge contraption..i'd run it in my community tank for 6 weeks then put it in the fry tank as i can see the fry tank needing used regularly so i'd best get it cycled or its daily water changes forever
