Got a few questions:
1. My two Firemouths just had hundreds of baby firemouths. When do I need to separate the parents from the babies?
2. Do I need to feed the babies? When I feed crushed flakes the parents just eat them all up.
3. What do a protein skimmer do? I noticed a thin white film on the surface of the water. Will that remove it? Is a protein skimmer needed in a fresh water tank?

I know its a lot of questions, thanks for the help.

Anyone? Anyone? Can anyone help me? Did I post this in the wrong section?

you dont need a protein skimmer in a fw setup i havent ever had firemouths but im guessing you should remove the parents and the white film is nothing to worry about

Not only do you not need a protein skimmer in FW, it won't even work, the specific gravity of FW is not enough. If the oil layer is really bothering you, take some paper towels and soak it up.

I have never kept cichlids, so no idea. Why not post in the cichlid sub-forum?

Thanks all. I'll try posting the firemouth questions in the cichlid...new to this site...didnt realize there was a sub forum for cichlids
