out of the last batch of black molly fries which i had one of them is left and it usually gets stuck in my sponge filter. My sponge filter sucks water from the lower half and then throws it from the upper half and my fry gets sucked whenever it comes near so please tell me what should i do as i dont have any extra tank. I just have one tank of 15 gallon, thats all.

Hi Sam, do you have an inline valve on the air line leading to the air filter? if so try reducing the air flow, this should reduce the filters suction and help your fry mate :good:

I don't know if this is saf and someone will say so I'm sure. can you get a new pair of tights, or some thin muslin type material and put it over the inlet held on with aquarium safe string so that fry cant get sucked up as there would be no holes
...check with others first though.....your tank isn't big enough to put up with constant fry batches. you may need to invest in a much larger tank just for raising fry

its a sponge filter so no holes....

What is classed as sponge filters are air driven. That is what's confusing people here, that's all.

Dose it have a control to turn down the flow rate? if so then this is best set low.
So the fry was getting sucked into the caseing?
as lilyrose said using a pair of tights around may help.

Here are a few photos of my filter:

Considering the photos please suggest me what should i do

nothing you can do inside sadily, you need to use something to cover the grills like tights to stop fry from being sucked in.

Well sir but if i cover the area from where the filter sucks the water then i think that the filter wont work properly or it might not do the filtration correctly. So what can be done now?

Do u have much wast in the water?

if not then you will not have a problem as long as the water is going through the filter, as it the bacteria in the filter that dose most of the work in removing the toxins.

Well i dont have much waste and then i didnt understand when you people meant to say tights? what do you all mean by that? Is the aim to just cover the part from where the suction is done?

Tights in what women wear on the legs  ,if you cover up the intake, this will stop the fry being sucked right into the filter,i have done this on my fry tank filters, and held in place with an elastic band, you may need to check it every so often if the filter slows, has the debris sticks to the tights, but its better than having you're fry sucked up.

Normally sponge filters are run off air pumps, but you have a power filter type.

Well yes my filter is different but the problem is that i dont have anyone in my house who wears tights so can you suggest me something else and are you sure that covering the suction part of the filter will not spoil the working of my filter?

Be aware that using tights will cause more pain than them being sucked straight in and having a quick death...

If the fry go near it, even with tights on it will just suck them in and they will stick to the tights and will possibly not be able to get free.. (does nobody think anymore on this forum?)
