I know this sounds cruel but I don't want to get overrun by fry as my female mollys mature further, I currently have 5 danios, 3 molly's, 1 betta and the fry that were born recently were about 10mm long 3-4mm wide so I will need something to aid the others in munching the fry so maybe only 1 or 2 survive to adulthood. I currently have a 40 litre tank so I am after any ideas people suggest.

I have thought about a dwarf gourami (female) so it won't stress the betta, or some khuli loaches but not sure of the fry would quickly out grow their mouths.

TBH the betta & danios are the most effective small fry eating fish. Khuli loaches won't do anything to eat the fry while the betta will certainly not enjoy any gourami's company (regardless of gender). The only way to have a truly fry-free tank would be to have an all-male tank, though male mollies may pick on the betta and the tank is a bit small for mollies either way (while the betta will probably pick on guppys). Perhaps go for an all-male platy tank of 3 male platys?

As TP said, danios are a fry eating machine. The betta is not a fry eater to any significant extent, as my own experiences have told me. Unless you have heavy cover, I would expect a drop in the tank itself to have few if any survivors.
