Fry Coloring

Do fry tend to take after mom or dad or a variety? I'm new to the whole fry thing, sorry. My panda platy gave birth 3 days ago and already I'm seeing some definite markings on a few of the fry to indicate they'll look like mom. Seems to me that this may be a little soon to determine color, but I swear the few that are changing already will be pandas. (By the way, I have no idea who the father is because the only male in my tank is a red, long-fin guppy) So I'm just curious about to expect.

well usually they will take after both parents.. if you want a certain colour/pattern then you'll have to selected breeding.. now i'm not a huge expert on that and i'm going to try to do this with my feeder guppies to see if i can get show guppies.. or something on the lines of that... there are amazing colours that i have found in the bunch that i have gotten.. now.. only a matter of time lol

That means she had gotten pregnant at the shop you got her from. She was most likely mated with a panda platy before she slipped into the swordtail tank. That is i think you are the one who got her from a sword tank right? But swords and platies can cross so maybe they will be panda sword platies lol. Pics? Pics?!?!

And finally a video where you can see them swimming and view their coloring much better. We have 3 ghost shrimp that we just added in there, and the fry are very curious.

Ok and the larger fry you see in the video is a red wag we discovered about two weeks ago... She is what got us started with the nursery tank to begin with.

I see a couple with definite panda markings. Its nice to see some indication of coloring early on. I cant wait for mine my lfs doesnt have any and said they would buy some or trade. You are great at takin vids and pics btw

Ok here they are at 1 week. I see a little bit of growth but nothing major. I see more color change than anything. Almost all of them have some sort of black on them now. Just a few are still translucent. I've seen one that we've lost on the filter when I changed it the other day. So we still have about 40. (Don't know the exact number because she began birthing without me watching.) I did change some water out this weekend. How much should i be replacing in a 10g nursery? I only took out 1g and replaced the regular evaporative loss, so it was about 1.5g that was replaced really. Is that enough? Anyway they should be joined by some Mickey Mouse and twin bar fry soon. My two other females are ready to bust And I have a guppy who appears mighty pregnant.Eek!

Very nice fry. I have rainbows, blues, red tuxedos, and used to have some bumblebees. It is exciting to watch them grow and find out what colours they will be. Great pictures....
