I have about 60 fry in a 30 gal tank. I bought a live plant from petsmart, came home washed it good, then put it in the fry tank. As of last count there r 48 snails in the tank, I get 5 or 6 out everyday and flush them down the drain. 2 Questions...... 1. Why is it bad to have snails, the LFS said to put snail be gone in my water to kill the snails. I really don't know what they r harming being in there. 2. Will a chemical like that harm my fry?

I personally don't like putting any kind of chemical in my tanks to kill off algae, snails or anything else and with fry I definetly wouldn't. I also like snails in my tanks, particularly fry tanks, they keep the tank so clean (yes they poop, but the poop is very easy to vacuum out if your tank is barebottomed, which fry tanks really should be for this reason). If you don't want them, I would suggest putting a piece of vegetable like zucchini or spinach in the tank before you turn out the light at night, then in the morning, check to see if any are on it (there should be) and just pull the vegetable out with the snails on it and dispose of it. You can also just pluck out any snails you have and watch for eggs to clear out (they are gell like looking things on the walls of the tank or on plants).

LEAVE THEM. They are great for a fry tank. They eat the over feed. And they will over have babys to the point of the level of the food. So if you keep getting more and more of them that is cause the tank is really loaded with wasted food. I have lots in my fry tanks and they have never caused a problem. But a mass kill of them will. Think of 100's of dead bodies in you house.
