Tank stocking 350L

10 Congo tetra
10 rasbora
10 Sterbai
4 German rams
4 Apisto's

The apisto's have had 2 lots a of fry in the tank over the last 4 weeks but they never make it. I belive the congos hunt them down and eat them maybe?
Well i have another lot born today and count 20 or so. If i leave them in i guess they will die, would it be a good idea to just hose the fry up and place them in my 60L shrimp tank until they are big enough to go back into community?

The shrip tank has lots of plants in and maybe 50 cherry shrimp, i can pull moss balls and java from tanks so the fry can feed from until i crush so flakes

sounds ok to me, its got to be worth a try if they are likely to peg it in the big tank.

Yeah true, just wondering about the female will she lose the plot taking her fry away after 24hrs? she trying her best but fending off against 20 other fish is stress her as well i would think.

Infact will the fry be ok away from mum or do they need her to devlop or is she just protecting them? been on google for hours but not getting mutch

If you want mum to be able to raise the fry you could try a tank divider. Give her and her babes a lille space of their own. Could make one yourself out of mesh if required. Just dont get mest that any of your fish could get stuck in!

Not an option my tank 350l with plants, rocks and wood every where....just noticed the congos are spawning as well and 2 of the rasbora are pregnant AGHHH RAGE...makes for a very aggsive tank at the moment think thats why MY GBR are stressed. Water stats are are 0,0 with 5ppm nitrate and the water has started to go cloudy with a green tint this week despite 50% water changes every week without fail. I now know why people give up on tanks i really feel like packing it in and turnning the the 350L into a huge posion dart frog tank  :dunno:

I've never got to the point where i want to pack it all in, most of the time you can reset your tank by doing a massive clean on the tank and filters with a big water change included. :)

Thats the triggered the cloudy water, i noticed some green/blue alage on the wood so left for a bit then it went into slime phase so i pulled all the wood scrubbed it in a bucket of tank water put it all back in, prob 60% water change then since then the tank is cloudy and wont clear up even with a water change....so fustrated as the tank was almost perfect before a clean

odd :/ mines a little murky from the side but spotless from the front ;x

Could be your lighting... I had a tank go completely green on me before because the bulbs were too intense and creating too much heat. I had green water and algae bloom like I'd never seen. I switched to fluorescent bulbs and did a big water change and it was done with.

as for the fry/mom, maybe you could add some rocks to your tanks decor. if you want to leave them in the same tank but increase their odds i'd make them a spot where there is only one easy access point for larger fish and lots of little hiding spots for the fry. I've just rocked off a corner for mine before, it works quite well.

Hmm thanks i do have 4 T5 as part of the rio setup, if i turn one set off the fish lose alot of their colour. I was going to turn it into a discus tank. Thnk the community tank soon lost it apeal. I do want to sort out the problems before i break down the tank and start again with discus.
