I took my holding rusty and my holding calico out of the main tank tonight and put both of them into the 1 small holding tank (only until I got the other 1 set up tonight) The rusty went in first and has been holding for just over a week, then the calico went in, she has been holding a few days more. The rusty has been going mental at the calico. The other tank is nearly ready, but now 1 of them has released some babies and I don't know who???? the babies still have some of the egg sac and they appear to be a sort of white colour, are rusty babies born light and then change or are they calico babies???? I think they may be calicos but I'm not sure as I don't know whether rustys are this colour at first or not so I don't know which fish to move out of the small tank now.
Any help????
Cheers
Julie

the mom thats eating is the one that released, take out the opposite mom and put her in the newly set up tank, sure hope you thought to put in aged water loaded with beneficial bacteria

Yes, I always have mature media to put in the filters, I keep some small sponges in my external filter. I just thought whilst I was catching 1 fish I'd get the other out, didn't expect they'd release so soon  Its the rustys first time, the calico has bred a few times before. I think both mums are still holding some. I'll put a small flake in and see if 1 of them eats.
Thanks
