Hi folks,

Just bought a mixed pack of Bloodworm, Daphnia, Artemia, White Mosquito Larvae and Black Mosquito Larvae.

It was intended for my community tank as a weekly supplement to their flakes but am I also able to feed my Mbuna the same stuff (except, obviously, for the bloodworm)?

thanks

steve

Daphnia and Artemia are no problem for sure. I know for fact that Labidochromis, Afra, and Sprengerae can handle the larvae, and I'm pretty confident most other mbuna would do fine on it as well.

Was hoping you would say that.

I wouldn't feed them bloodworms or the mosquito larvae if I were you, theres a good chance that your cichlids can develop bloat if you do, I would feed them some frozen krill, or brine shrimp instead...or once in a while if they are big enough feed them live ghost shrimp, feeder guppies, or feeder minnows....

it's a good idea to stay away from beefheart for any fish really, it's not good for any fish, even if it won't out right kill most the way it would mbuna.

ok good thing i didnt buy it at the store the other day

how about brine shrimp for the malawis?

I bought a special frozen Malawi mix which seems mainly veggies - since I'm too lazy to chop the cubes up i defrost it in dechlorinated water and give half to the Malawis and half to the community tank and everyone loves it! I also bought some Sera green african cichlid mini pellets - they come in a big jar with a 'shaker' type lid, you just sprinkle 'em in - fishies LURV 'em. Def a big success.

Blinkin' fish have a more varied diet than me
