Frozen Foods

At a guess I would have thought it lasted quite a few months in the freezer.
Freezers normally have pictures and how many months they last in the freezer. Relate the bloodworms to the closet one to get a rough idea I spose.

I've currently got Daphina and tubiflex in there and only want to feed them half a cube every six days (tubiflex one six days, Daphina the next) - so they will both be in there for a little while.

as long as the package is sealed and they don't thaw then refreeze, they should last a good while

I gave my fish (see my sig.) and cube of tubiflex the other day and it took them ages to finish it all off (some of it was attached to plants and all over the place) + my tetras bloated so I guess I overfed them???? If this is the case then should I simply cut the cube in half?

And what about Daphina - I don't know if you've ever seen Daphina (or if yours is different) but it's like two mini-cubes stuck togther - shall I cut this in half too? - I don't know how long it will take for them to eat a whole one because I haven't given them one yet...

Thanks.

Hi timmystood :)

While it's very important to be careful using frozen food, that doesn't mean you have to be stingy with it. Your corys need a lot of meat in their diet and would like to have some every day, or every other day depending on what other foods you are feeding them. Just take care not to feed more than the fish can eat before they lose interest in it.

You could even cut a cube into quarters, or if it's too small to do that, just defrost some and feed them part of it. Throw the rest away. :D

hi
have you tried black or white mosquito larva - also comes frozen in blister packs, all our fish go MAD for it. i use a pair of scissors & chop it a little so our rummy nose & cardinal tetras find it mouth sized

The fatty acids in frozen foods will go off if not kept cold enough and they will loose there palability. They are kept at -18c in the shops but even at this temp. they still deteriate. The huge warehouse freezer at billingsgate fish market is -30c. There is no set date because it is not for human consumption its not deemed nesicerry but try and use it within 3 months of purchase to guarantee it still at its best.
