Okay, well I'll be honest. The only things I like ordering online are Plecostomus, but getting them to breed.... I need slate or wood, and I am currently working on wood, but not all Plecostomus prefer it so I have to get slate somehow and there are no stores that sell them around me. Anyway I have very large stone rocks in my backyard and they are just an eyesore, so can I just chisel them down a bit and clean them up a little to make it look like slate? I prefer slate or wood over PVC and other.

No, you can't make any rock look like slate.  But, my BN doesn't mind my rocks that aren't slate, although I think he really liked my mopani on the sand substrate.  He dug it out for himself.

Okay then could I break the rock a little to where it is kind of flat and use it?

Just test them with some distilled vinegar first.  If they fizz, don't use them.

Disinfect with hot water (pour boiling water over the rock, never boil the water with the rock in it).

Leave in a bucket for a week with water and test pH before and after to determine if it will mess with your pH.
