Hi all,

Am going to be setting up my new 4 x 2 x 2 (450L) tonight and transferring all my fish from my 3 foot (150L) (New tank is going in the place the old tank was so all has to be done in one go!).

On the 3 foot I was running two Aquaclear 50 HOB's. I have two Fluval 305 canisters to put onto the new tank.

I am just wondering whether I should just take out all the HOB media and squish it into say the carbon cartridges in the canister filter and put away the HOBS for good straightaway (I haven't had a good look inside the filter to see if this is feasible yet), or whether I should run the canisters and HOBS simultaneously for a few weeks?

Also just wondering if anyone has the Fluval is it best to stick to the recommended media and the order in the canister or is there a better way to do it? This is my first canister filter...

Cheers

I'd take all the media out and place it in the canister. I'm not sure how your fluval is setup but if you can place all the sponges from the hob in the new filter you should. Squeezing is not enough in my personal opinion. I'd also open the hob and wipe all the good brown muck that is stuck inside the filter and add that to the canister also.

Cheers thanks for the advice! I will try to put the old media as close to the 'beginning' of the canister filter flow as I can...
