Dwarf corys, otos, or African Dwarf Frogs are your best bet.

Most swimming fish, danios and tetras included, should really have more open swimming space than a 2.5g provides.

I would leave the betta in the tank by himself. But that's just me.

I have danios in a 55 gallon tank, and they can make it from one side to the other (4 feet) in a matter of seconds. I wouldn't feel right putting them in a small tank. But that's just me, again.

white cloud minnows are a good addition to a betta tank.

I agree with big steve My betta is in with all my fish but the only ones I've noticed to not bother the betta at all is the white cloud minnows they are also quite active so the tank wont be too boring
