Yes but you need to know what type of fish that you're getting and what their specific requirements are, i.e.
Figure 8 puffers require low brackish SG1.003-SG1.005 at 25 degC.
Scats are euryhaline and will tolerate many salinities between SG1.005 at 25DegC and marine.
GSP's start off at low salinities and eventually require high brackish.

Never change your salinity by more than SG0.002 at any one time and you won't kill your bacteria colony.

I'm thinking of a paludarium for Red claw crabs

Sounds like a nice project :D

I'd also keep a powerhead and heater handy for mixing the salt before adding to the tank :D

Cheers, will be next project on the list after sorting my 60l stock. Paludarium will be an odd shape - 24"x8"x8" 25l

About a year ago I converted from a freshwater to a brackish tank....I had ick in my tank and it ended up taking out all but my gold gourami. So when I was at my local pet store, I saw red and green scats in a hex tank and thought they were very neat. So I asked the fish expert in the store about how to convert. My next water change I started the change over. A few weeks later I got my first brackish fish. I started my brackish 29 gal tank with 2 mono argentus, 2 green scats, 2 red scats, a knight goby and a sand goby. They are a joy to watch. I ended up adding an African pearl goby to the mix as well as 2 more mono argentus. I love watching my mono's school.

A few months later I started a puffer tank with a 20 gal setup my dad gave me. I had two avacado puffers and a green spotted puffer in it.

My dad enjoyed my brack tank so much that he bought a 29 gal setup so he could start his own brackish tank.

Recently, I upgraded to a 55 gallon tank for my brack fish and added a mono sabae. I moved my puffers into the 29 gal setup.

It was by far the easiest transition to move from fresh to brackish water. I have less illness in my tank and have had all of my fish for a year now. ^^
