Freshwater Sump

I have a 20g. Long that I'm setting up after about a year of not doing anything with aquarium fish. I have a ten gallon tank that I'd like to turn into a sump for the 20 gallon tank. I would love to do this because it would esentually add to the over all volume of water in circulation. So any suggestions, concernes?

Sumps are great, you can hide equipment and increase volume and surface agitation. They can be a pain for planted tanks though. All my tanks run off sumps.
