I have a freshwater snowflake eel (Looks just like this one): http://petsolutions.com/Images/200/59400.jpg

and African Cichlids ( electric blues/yellows )

I read that african cichlids can survive with salt ( 1 tsp per 5 gallons )

If I add salt to my aquarium, will the snowflake eel survive too?

Thanks for your help

I don't believe African Rift Lake Cichlids can survive with salt. Many of the less specialized cichlids can, but not Mbuna.

There is no such thing as a "Freshwater Moray" and I foolishly beleived there was, at least one that could survive for a few years. Really, a saltwater system would be best for your Moray. :good:

Aw okay thank you.
I guess I'll try to sell my eel and my albino oscar to craigs list
By the way, I love your avatar, are those your fish?

Lynden, you might want to check into African cichlids and the Rift lakes they come from before stating the above.

RIFT LAKE BUFFER RECIPE

Ingredients
Epsom Salt
Marine Salt
Baking Soda Instructions
For every 5 US Gallons of water, add 1-tablespoon Epsom salt, 1-teaspoon baking soda, and 1-teaspoon marine salt.
)
they come from salt, just not as salty as your used to though ;-}

Contrary to what I have previously read, there is a species of moray that does seem to inhabit FW as an adult.

According to Scott W. Michael on page 245 of Reef Fishes Volume 1:

Gymnothorax polyuranodon, even lives in freshwater in Indonesia and possibly Fiji and Australia as well

I am unsure if this species is ever traded, but its fishbase profile agrees with the statement made by Michael.
