How much salt do you have in the water and how long have you had the eel?

Hello,

I've heard many times that 'freshwater' morays go off their food if the salinity is too low. I'd recommend you raise the specific gravity to at least 1.005, and ideally around 1.010. Bear in mind that raising the salinity won't bother the fish, but it will stress the bacteria in the filter.

Next up, make sure you're offering the right foods. Live foods like river shrimp are a good place to start as these can survive for several days in brackish water. These eels feed at night, so try offering the food after the lights are out. Morays usually take to dead food eventually, but with newly imported fish you might need to train them.

Cheers,

Neale
