Freshwater clam

Well I received my freshwater clam one week ago. It was moving until three days ago. Then didn’t seem to move.

today I thought maybe it was dead. Nope. As I was getting ready to dump
Him and the tank. . . He’s moving and has his little “feelers” out or whatever they are called.
What’s the care for these and the food ? Just floating by plant matter or ?

My guess is anything that it can draw in and filter.(fish food) I would go clamming as a kid and they would bury themselves in the sand with only a small hole in the sand where they drew in the water. Once you scare them- off they would go-funny to watch, great to eat.

Freshwater clams people eat ? My husband said can’t wait to eat it but I thought he was joking lol.

the filter In that tank isn’t working very well because I think it’s clogged. Maybe I should clean the damn tank right now.

These were salt water clams, I spent my summers on a island off the coast of Maine.

Fixed the filter . Clogged by crap. Now it’s running good. And there is the clam.

I havent been putting any food in there. He’s the only one in the tank. It’s my fry tank but there are no fry in there anymore. Should I feed him some flakes or dried blood
Worms ? I thought he would be ok with the drifting hornwort , but I cleaned it well today.

I would make the fish food into a fine dust, you could mix it with tank water in a cup and pour it in so it sinks to the bottom

Remember clams eat by filtering the water so he will pull the water with the fine particles in and filter them out-yum yum

How would I make sure he eats though ? If I crushed the food for him ? Just pour the crushed food in the top of the tank and he would find it ? Even though he doesn’t move?

Think of him as a filter he draws water in and removes the food so let the fine (dust) food fall by him and he will suck it in.

That is why I said mix the food with tank water and pour it over him.
