Is the constipation thing like an "urban legend" or true?

I'm feeding him BettaMin Tropical Medley. He was eating the flakes at first...but then he would just keep spitting the flakes out and only eat the freeze dried brine shrimp.

What is a good quality food that is safe and popular with Bettas?

Sorry for the dumb question...it's been a while since I had a Betta and my knowledge has slipped a little lol

IMO, freeze-dried foods DO lead to constipation... so I avoid them.

I would recommend the Hikari Betta Bio Gold pellets... my bettas LOVE them. You can also get frozen/thawed bloodworms and/or brine shrimp... bettas love them and are as close to live as you can get (next to fresh live, of course.)

Over feeding also leads to constipation and then more seriously swim bladder... so 5 pellets a day or 5 bloodworms (1/2" size approx) is a good amount... a good thing to know is that their tummies are the size of their eyeballs.

Yea, I know about the amounts to feed...it was just the type to feed I wasn't sure about lol

freeze dried will cause constipation, but for some reason sun dried food will not! HA HA!!!!
