Found The Buggers

finally i found the snails that have been roaming around my tank for weeks now. not that i don like these little guys, i think there quite a nice addition to the tank but i have been baffled on how they kept springing up after i was constantly removing them every week when i was cleaning my tank. But this last week it was time to wash my juwel filter media, low and behold there was the biggest colony of snails i have ever seen within all of my layers of media. it was quite funny that i had been out smarted by these creatures so i decided not to remove them all but leave a few to roam around my tank

Hi Johnny,

The reason they keep re-appearing is because snails are egg-layers. Even if you removed every snail from the tank, i bet you'd have snails again within a few days because you haven't removed the eggs.

Snail eggs are small and they usually like to lay them on plant leaves (if you have plants). To totally erradicate the snail population, you would need to remove all the eggs too. This can be done by removing and carefully washing all the decor and substrate in very hot water.
