please can anyone help me.
after yet another 2 gold fish dying i took one of the little bodies and looked at it through a jewelers eye glass, i found to my horror a tiny milky translucent worm coming out of the back of skull same thigh as top of gills can anybody tell me what it is and do i have to euthanise the other 10 or so. 500 gal tank water stats bang on its been going fine since last aug if its possible how do i get rid of them and how do i treat the fish, thankyou

I remember seeing quite a few long threads arguing the best methods if you search on "euthanise" or similar. Are you also querying the "emergencies" section and the goldfish section?

Hi moogie
The first step would be to treat the tank for internal worms or parasites,
if you can repost this in the emergency section along with a pic if you can, i'm sure Wilder will be able to suggest the best treatment available

if you looked at the fish after it was dead in the tank for a while, then the worms were probably just feeding on the body while it lay on the gravel. It would be unlikely that they killed the fish.

can you give us some info on the fish, the tank, and how the fish look before they die.
ie: how often do you do water changes and gravel cleans?
how often is the filter cleaned?
what do you feed the fish and how often do you feed them?
what sort of goldfish are they?
do you have a pic of the fish, (dead or alive)?
how often are the fish dieing and what do they look like when it is happening?

any of this info would be helpful, as would the temperature and hardness of the tank water.

Please do not kill the remaining fish because I'm sure there is a simple answer and we can fix this problem.
