So can anyone tell me if its a healthy clutch? I've never had one before and kept apple snails for a couple of years now. Here is a pic of the location of it. Basically it's tucked away right at the back behind the light. So whats the low down on looking after it? I wouldn't mind if they hatched. I have two purples and one pink apple snail.

Really shocked this happened. I got a fright when I took the hood off to sort the filter. The last time I had the hood off would have been ~ one week ago. They look kinda dry to me but I'm not going to do anything to them. Thought I'd be more pleased to see an apple snail clutch! But theres no denying it looks gross

If you don't mind leaving them there and allowing them to hatch in your tank, they would be good their. They like the humidity and water, however not to much so the eggs stay healthy and don't dry out. However you will have lots of baby snails in your tank.
They like to eat romaine lettuce too!
Good Luck! :good:

Yeh I think whoever laid them choose the right location. I've witnessed mating between them all for a while now but it never resulted in a clutch. They were even mating last night when I was posting this thread. I will be quite happy for them to hatch. I think I could provide homes for them. At the back of the tank there are two gaps for wires. Is there any danger of the baby snails getting lost en route to the water? Or are they born with the sense that down is goooood.

Anyone know what the result of a pink and purple apple snail offspring will look like? Funky hopefully :D

Hi,

The clutch looks good to me. My first couple of clutches were not fertilised and nothing happend but then I got two or three clutches at once and they all hatched and I had quite a few snails after that. I did post on here a while back showing pictures of the clutches.

Let us know what happens,

Regards,

Richard

they do look a little dry, if you have a mist sprayer you could spray them once in a while, if you feel the clutch you will notice that it has a hard surface, when its ready to hatch it wil go soft , when mine are soft i just take them off and swish the baby snails out in the water.

you will just get a mix of purple stripe and pink , of all puple or all pink,,lol

I always leave them on the tank.. the snails lay them in specific places for a reason..

Sometimes they hatch, sometimes they don't..

I just let it happen as it will.

So hows it looking now? I've been squirting water at it once a day (but maybe forgot to do so once or twice)

I think it looks pretty disgusting  but possibly viable?

More pics.
I take it the white bits are not filled with a snail, whereas the pinky bits mean a baby inside?

yes your right

thats a healthy clutch there. keep spraying and with any luck they will hatch soon

the time for a clutch to hatch is between 2-4 weeks but mine hatch in around 9 days , it all depends on humidity.

Good luck with hatching them, I have still not had any luck with any of mine. The clutch looks pretty viable to me, looks like you should get a good amount of snails.
What are you keeping, Brigs?
Keep us updated!

I'm gobsmacked I really am. I checked on it last night and it looked as though it was starting to cave in and dry out. Was wrong though! Took some pics of the little buggers. Terribly cute I must say except the acutal clutch looks even more disgusting. So I take it the spots on their shell wont be like that forever? Cant wait to see what colour they are!

Purple stipe! No offense, but could you fix that?

My thread isnt about typos. I knew what shaz meant. Did you seriously just post on this thread because of a typo? Kinda rude.

Hi,

Congratulations Lynz, :- :yahoo: Nice photos too, I cant believe you actually caught them hatching, I missed all mine. LOL
