I was feeding shimmer today and saw a small snail, with a kind of spotted shell, it was alive and its just sliming around the plants, i oslated it in a container of water, what do i do with it, what will it eat, will it get big?
Any ideas on anything about them please let me know, thankyou.

which snail is this?
Any info?

Try posting it in the inertabrate section. Did you add any tyoe if new plant or anything lately. It might have hitchhikes off of one of those. I bet you a dwarf puffer will eat it, or a loach, that is if you have one. :good:

Nope dont have any of those. x
Might keep it, keeps the algae off, i got a new plant on the weekend, never seen it before tho.

Didnt say anything just google, and i think it could be a tiger snail.

Oh yes! im pretty sure its a Physa spec, thanks curiosity and doris!
now where do i go from here, i dont know much about it ill research it.

Well it did come off the plant(s) for one... and from that you have found out where it came from and what its name is... you also need to research as much as possible to find out what they eat and if he will be alright with the betta. Shimmer might pick on him so keep an eye on the betta more then the snail lol

:D

Alright will do, he seems quite happy ( the snail ) munching on the elodea.
Im trying to find out more about the snail

Just be a little careful he doesnt end up eating all your elodea! My tank of breeding Ramshorns get through plants and lettuce like no tomorrow!

HaHa, i might get some ramshorns i seen lots of them in my lfs, would this be alright if so how many?
Will my physa spec slef fertilise?

I am not the best to ask on snails, you may need to post in the invertebrate section of the forum, lots of nice helpful people.

Ramshorns are surprisingly pretty and even more surprisingly fast! They munch like anything, if you have more than one in the tank they are probably breed like mad!

There are only certain species of snail that can self reproduce (is that what you meant? sorry bit tired ;)), you would need to research the specific species have. I know apple snails, ramshorns you need more than one to breed ( in the case of apples you get males and females, the other types are hermaphrodites meaning that if you have two there will be babies if there is plenty of food and clean water!)

Hope that helps a little bit :)

hope link works, if does should take you to the section mentioned.
