I have a thing for buying fish I like even if I see a little bit of ich. So ich is nothing new to me. I have uses everything once I feel like. I read Formalin is used on farm fish for ich. I know it can work I have used it before to treat the tank for the last few days to kill any left overs. I'm trying it again. I have a mild case I'm dealing with. I hate Malachite Green so I just use Formalin it's not as nasty or as hard on the fish. It's safe on plants

I'm doing large daily water changes 50% or more. Then I dose with Formalin. Has anyone used this and how did it work for you.

Have you tried copper sulfate? Thats what I have always used with good results. Aquari-sol is my preferred brand as it is cheap. 3 years now and I still have the orginal bottle. Its plant safe as well. Some what shrimp safe. I know people freak about copper and shrimp. If you run it mild, like half dose the shrimp are fine and it will still get rid of mild ich. Full strength will kill most shrimp(1 or 2 always live for some reason). Possibly a few snails.

I've never used formalin. I don't think I ever want to use formaldehyde on my fish. At the same time I'm sure its probably safe. Its in our food isn't it? You know those tasty preservatives.

Yeah they treat fish raised for food with formalin. So it can't be that bad. Yes I have used coppersafe. I like it but my new pleco the one with the problem does not seem to being doing well with the copper. I used coppersafe first.

Thanks

ps how do you like your emperor tetras? I just got 2 pairs.

Update. My fish are not showing any signs of ich since I have been adding this. I treated with clout fir 2 days doing water changes before I dose. I did an 80% WC then have been doing % wc every other day adding the formalin everyday. Things are under control.

I find formalin to be good on a light parasite load. it is safe on plants and cory cats. As long as up increase O2..

So it works but if you have a very infected fish this might not work as fast as other stuff. But it does work you can does every 12 hr for a bad infestation .

You will find most whitespot treatments contain 2 or 3 out of malachite green, formalin, and/or acriflavine (Protozin for example contains all three)

Also all three can be purchased individually in full concentration doses for when treating larger pond fish
