to make the kit cheaper, you can cancel out the solenoid and run the CO2 24/7. This means you will only get about 3months out of a 2kg though.

without a solenoid a reg costs £30

Thanks for the info Steve

£30 if you're lucky like I was - I snarfed an Aqua Medic reg for that including shipping :D

I think budgeting £50 for a reg would be the safest bet, incase one can't be found for less. Lunapet regs are good. I bought one of these for my first regulator and still use it. Lunapet also do solenoids quite cheap too. About £22 with shipping from Germany which is far cheaper than most places that I've seen.

Running the CO2 24/7 means you might get away with slightly less bubbles per min (it's totally dependant on your own setup though, can't really compare to someone elses too easily due to all the different factors - plant mass, growth rates, light levels etc etc). But yeah, 3 or 4 months hopefully.

what the internal reactor guys? what does it do? where does it go? a reg and a solenoid is about £60 on the link aaron provided, i dont want it running over night, so is there a knob you can just turn? what about a 5kg extinguisher?

Well my drop checker is always a nice green, regarding lighting i run two 39w T5 and a 38w T8.

Don't forget with that reg from Weld UK you will also need a needle valve.

Its a shame these here wont fit as they fit a bottle with female thread

Cheers Gordon.

Just had a quick search on ebay and found this should do the trick, just need a needle valve and should be good to go. £28.98 including delivery.

Inetrnal reactors go on the inside of the auarium and they are ideal for larger tanks; It is like a bubble ladder, the bubbles go around a spiral and they dissolve into the water,

a solenoid is used to switch the CO2 on/ off. Set it on a timer, 2 hours on before lights on, 2 hours off before lights off. Do not turn any knobs, only the needle valve which is set once, this opens or closes the pipe to allow more or less CO2 in, this is seen through the use of a bubble counter.

5kg fire extinghuishers are fine to use.

i have a couple of ceramic diffusers lying around? can i use these instead of the internal reactor? (are they smaller as well?) BINKSY your link takes me to a random website, that is not ebay!

you can use the diffusers, make sure they are in the flow so the bubbles get pushed around, or attach it to a powerhead.

i could attach it to the fluval 4+, but we shall see.

Sorry Nick, have now edited the above link in my post should be ok now.

Cheers Gordon

does it have a solenoid and a needle valve, becuase i dont wantit running 24/7. do i need special airline?

No its only the reg for that price, you maybe best looking at the German sites mentioned earlier on this thread, probably a cheaper option for your requirements.

Cheers Gordon

yeah, it will cost me around £100 in total i think to set it up, but i think it will have to fork out as its a must for a planted tank.
