The fish i have are listed in my signature below
i feed my fish on flakes and i feed my plec on algae tablets
but are there any other foods i can get for my fishother than boring flakes
and can those foods benefit my fish?

Hi :) ,

try feeding them some shelled, mushed up peas once a week and also some frozen brine shrimp, again once a week  .

What sort of Plec do you have in your tank BTW? The majority of plecs will quickly grow much too large to be keptin a 10 gallon tank :/ .

Sorry, don't mean to pull you up. Just thinking about the future welfare of your fish  .

steve

:) It is a common plec, but dont worry because it will be moved to a larger tank very soon
 Thanks for the advise. :D

You can buy freezedried daphinia, bloodworms and tubifex from most lfs although these are good nutritious foods for fish they can easily be overdosed upon; you should only feed your fish them twice a week as a treat.

Can you feed common plecs cucumber and lettuce
i was reading some info on the net and it says you can

Yep. no problems.

some on here cut the green skin off the cucumber and blanch it before putting it in the tank...others just cut a slice and drop it in.

Try both and see which your plec prefers.

oh and do the slices need to be thick or thin?

well i tried giving my fish cucumber and they loved it but it floated so a lot of my fish didnt get any of it so wat i did is got a elastic band and put it on a piece of slate with the cucumber and it worked great. but remember dont leave the cucumber in there for long half an hour at the most :D

Yea i just put a cucumber in and had the same problem
but ill try your idea thanks. :)

 Thanks but what is "blanch"
to blanch your cucumer just place your slice of cucumber in a cup of boiling water for about five minutes.

It basically softens the cucumber flesh up so it is more edible for the plec.

About 1cm thick will do ya.

but remember dont leave the cucumber in there for long half an hour at the most

Personally would leave it in your tank for a few hours at least . You have gotta give your plec time to at least track the cucumber down and then eat it!! :D

Just don't leave it in overnight.

steve

blanching shouldnt take much more than a minute. 5 mins boiling a pea is a cooked pea not blanched ;) Far as peas go just drop em in some tank water 5 mins then squeeze them outta the shell right into the tank and ya fish will love ya for it ;) And i wouldnt put more than the fish can eat in two hours (for zuccinni/cukes etc peas will be gone in minutes). =]
