just curious about opinions on food for my electric blue jack dempsey and gold severum.
The electric blue is about 2 inches and the gold severum is about 3 inches.

Part 1) both fish are young. what will make them grow big and strong?

Part 2) once they get some size what will enhance their color?

BONUS ?) the electric blue jack dempsey looks like he has a slightly bent spine any way to help fix it? (it looks like he has no problem with it he swims great.)

funny you are asking I was just looking this up for my baby acaras. Good quality Cichlid pellets for everyday. bloodworms as treats switch it up every now and then feed some frozen food or live brine shrimp. For youg fish feed twice a day. Live food is always good but must be healthy. Try and feed them what they would eat in the wild when you can.

I feed my sevs, cichlid pellets (floating) daily, vegetable crisps, tetra prima, blood worms, shrimp, prawn, tuna, I feed them 2/3 x daily. These are also good for JD's.

The JD, does he have a sunken belly as well as a bent spine? Could indicate internal parasites, try a good quality wormer if so.

pretty much the same as minxy hikari pellet staple with veggie crisps prawn etc. also livefood is good my sevs love earthworms and river shrimp is great if you can get it .

well thanks for your help so far :)

the electric blue jacks belly is normal it doesn't look caved in and it pushes out when he gourges himself the little pig LOL

Birth defect maybe, unlikely but a possiblity fish tb. Any signs of long stringy white poo?

The spine is probably a birth defect, if the Dempsey is not showing any signs of distress and swims fine, then I wouldn't worry.
As for food, pretty much any good cichlid pellet and granular food (not sure if you can get Tetra Prima in the USA) Most live foods will be taken too. Krill is a good high protein food that also brings out your fish's colour. You can feed that a couple of times a week as a treat. But frozen mussel, shrimp, prawn, bloodworm etc etc.
