Hi everyone...Has anyone had success with antibacterial food medication for ill fish. I have a betta at home that was given to me and he is not looking very well at all. He is wasting away, very thin and his fins are getting short. I've had him now for over 2 months and his condition has not improved at all even with big water changes, but the good thing is he is eating well. So I thought if he has a bacterial infection maybe someone could recommend a product that I could obtain over the net. None of the lfs has food medication in my area. Or the other thought is he may have internal parasites. So what should I treat him for? My other thought is he may be suffering from consumption and I don't think there is any cure for that...is there? If anyone has had a fish with this type of ailment, could offer me some advice...will be much appreciated. :good:

My two suspects would be consumption which I am pretty sure there is no effective cure for or internal parasites. Most parasite medications I have seen at my local pet shops is stuff that treats the entire water the fish is in. I do know there are food medications out in the big wide world but I can't say I have seen them in Australia, and in your neck of the woods even less likely I would think. I did find a site in Australia that has fish doctors online and you could ask them but I think the site requires you to pay a subscription.

Yes I agree with you, some products are hard to get a hold of and you do have to pay to obtain advice from a fish dr. I'll try to keep this betta comfortable and keep his water pristine and plenty of special attention. Thanks for your input :)
