Hi All,

Was just wondering about the following:

There are loads of suppliers on Ebay and the Net selling cheap fish food.
Looks to me they order huge volumes in bulk and then repackage in smaller amounts.

My understanding is that once fish food has been exposed to air, it loses the goodness and nutrients fairly quickly.
So the repackaging process surely exposes the granules/flake to air?

Is it a good idea to buy from these suppliers?
Will the food be as good as that bought in the original packaging from the lfs?

My other hobby is angling and I have been making my own baits for quite a while now. Most baitmakers wouldn`t dream of buying any fishmeal product from anywhere but a specialised bait supplier. Most commercially available fishmeals are produced using a heat process which spoils the amino acid profile meaning that it will not be as nutritional. All fishmeals contain differing amounts of fish oil which will generally start to go rancid after a while (most baitmakers wont use a fishmeal product that is over 6 months old), another problem with old fishmeal is that like all untreated animal products it can develope 2 nasty toxins cadaverine and putricine neither of which you would want to feed your fish
How much of that is relevent to fish food I`m not sure, but it passed 10 minutes on
