Does anybody own the fluval u2 or u3 filter? if so would you reccomend it to a 95 liter tank? thank you for your time

Ive had a few of this range and they are pretty nice internal filters really the only issue I have had with them is the small one as the weight of the sponge actually slows the impeller but in the larger ones this is not an issue. Go for the largest one you can fit/afford in the tank and it will do well :) The other option is always a small external like one of the small ehiems.

hello i have a u3 in my 95 ltr and its great i wouldnt go for the u4 purely because i feel the u3 is sufficent both power wise and size too the u4 will just be too big of a unit for a 95 ltr. As i said i have a u3 and you will not be dissapointed it is virtually silent and has always kept my water crystal clear and also has various settings for how you want the output of the water and also has the venturi valvle thing can airate the water. got mine from a seller on ebay for only £25! although they dont seem to have any at the moment but there are some on there for around £28-29

I have a fluval u2 in my 90 litre tank and it is spot on no problems at all easy to clean maintain etc.If you got a choice get the bigger one as it will turn your water over more and has a bigger capacity than the u2 but all in all great internal filters mate.

See reading this makes me think there's something wrong with mine coz I have the U2 and though I think it's good, the water is not crystal clear, it always had "bits" floating in it. Little ones but they're still there.

from what your all saying i will get the u3 filter. thanks for all your help

Yeah deffo. I've wondered if I should have done and you got 35L on me.

yeh probably but yours should have been ok. dont suppose you know anythin about lighting in the tanks? because i want a moonlight one all i know is what it says on the light now which is sun-flo 23.6"/60cm 20w t8.

You buy moonlight led strips off ebay which work out about £10-£15 depending on length and they jus run off seperate plug.

twinklecaz yours should be sufficient for your tank easily take it apart and give it a good clean.

Done it before, though I might try again tonight. I think a lot of the prob is there's a lot of chalk in our water.

and moonlights rock. I got some a few weeks ago and love them! On mine you can change the brightness. I just leave them on all the time coz I have it so dim that you can't see it when the main light is on.

Just wondered whether those who use this filter leave the poly/carbon pad in or remove it and just replace with another sponge pad. I have just been reading an article about very soft water with low ph which is the case with my tank and it says the bacteria struggle to survive at such a low ph and that the carbon will help remove the ammonia. Anyone have any views on this?

sorry to hijack the post but twinkle have you tried putting filter floss in your filter. it will really polish your water and remove and bits in the water. not matter how small. Get some cusion filling from Dunelm and stuff in the the biomax chamber. Rinse it 1st tho

I'm 99.9% certain that carbon won't remove ammonia. I've got soft, acidic water as well, but I haven't had any problems. I took the carbon pad out of my U3 and replaced it with a layer of filter floss.

THANK YOU. The only reason I hadn't tried the floss is coz I didn't know where I could put it in a Fluval :)

I just left my carbon pads in btw. After a few days they run out and are basically just another pad anyway.
