As said above, i have a Fluval U2 filter in good working condition with mature media.
Great for beginners as you wont need to cycle.

How long have you had it running to mature it?
What is the aquarium it has been running in & what fish please?
Can you use media other than the U2?

The filter is about 2 years old but has only been used for 3 months. Has been in srorage the rest of the time.
Yes it has 3 different directional flows.
All the media for the filter is currently inside my FX5 to my 600L and has been for the past 18months.
This tank has about 60 fish in so the media will be very mature.
Can you use media other than U2? Not sure what you mean here mate.
You can put any biological filtration in it but it only takes the sponges im sending. You could buy a second set of sponges.
(if thats what you meant) Their easily available on ebay.

In respect to this filter it looks like you have to have the filter sponges that Fluval supply?
For my Fluval I am able to buy in bulk and cut sponges etc., to fit, which is cheaper.

Yes i believe you do have to use fluvals sponges but there really not that expensive to be fair, iv seen them on ebay for £3.50 a pair or £6.00 for 6.

Can you advise what sponges it has in it as I understand it normally has the following:
This filter comes with two sponges for alternate cleaning, a polyester and carbon cartridge combined for extra mechanical and chemical filtering, and best of all, separate Biomax biological media.
Not sure that the carbon sponge will still be useful i.e. will need replacing straight away?
 
I have been helping them with their tank. 
I think they have a "Fish Box 40cm Tank by Interpet" (H 43 x W 39 x D 33 cm) and I believe it to be 52.725 Litres = 11.598 UK Gals
So this filter should do a better job than the sting-ray they currently have, as this has very little media.

Sorry for the late reply, iv been working nights all weekend.
Yes that is the filter mate. I will be providing mature sponges and mature biomax biological filtration.
I will not be providing the carbon sponge as these only work for a matter of days and are only used after using medication as they strips chemicals out the water.
So for everyday filtration, carbon is really not needed.
