Fluval U Filters Any Good ?

i recently installed a fluval 205 to my tank and would like a good internal filter to run along side it .
i was going to use a spare fluval 3+ but i kind of like the new fluval u3 filters but the only problem i can find with it is the polycarbon pad , can this be removed and replaced with a poly pad cut to size?
i have not seen the filter properly only pictures of the box on the internet.
does anyone have any views on fluval u filters?

basically they just slide out,spose you could put a very slim poly pad in there,havent tried it with mine as im using the carbon at the moment, but i would like to as the tank has tiny particles that need removing - i have the U4 by the way.. i prefered the most recent 4+,

im going shopping on sunday and will ask to look at the filter so i can have a good look.
