Has anyone hear of this state of the art filter that is coming out in October? Is it a canister filter? Will it be appropriate for planted tanks?

It looks like an external with a canister type filter media. Even more interesting you can register to win a free one over at the Hagen Fluval G Website.

lol, got the email about a month ago. and still nothing, of use, has come out of fluval. best "chatter" seem to suggest some form of, programmable wet-dry/refugium sump system! pics, from the site also seem to indicate some form of illuminated electronic control system too. interesting to keep an eye on.

the internals are brill...theyre let down a bit by their current externals though, bar the FX5

it seems from the very few pictures that its just going to be a stylish external-possibly with a red led, displaying perhaps heat, or to turn up or down the flow ???? but it definately seems to be having the cartridges that are found in the fluval u series, this could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.

another possibility is that the led screen shows water stats, maybe ph/temp, just have to wait and see!

any external filter is fine for a planted tank.

Yeah one that leaks and makes more noise than a tractor engine is just perfect :good:

OK so I've had no experience with the fluval 05 series, but the 304 I had was awful. I'll be buying Eheim from now on. Since buying the Ehiem Classic I've found out that you can actually hear more noise coming from the fluval 4+ than the classic 2217.

In my humble opinion, any company who makes such a big hype about something that no one has ever seen is asking for trouble. They obviously need the publicity. I'm sorry but Fluval just isn't Aston Martin or Lamborghini, no matter what they reveal it still going to be a filter and even the most enthusiastic fish keepers aren't going to be overly excited.

i have good experience with fluval filters, i have had 2 x 205's and one 105.
All silent and easy to use,
i did have an eheim classic 2215 and it was the worst thing i have ever had. i used tohat having to clean it out. You couldnt get the lid of due to so much suction, i had to take it outside and release the water out before i even stood a chance, and as for siphoning it, that was terrible

Well I'll have my Eheim Classics, cause they're a breeze to clean. I think lots of people don't know how to use them, and they are certainly useless if you don't have a set of double taps but in my opinion they're brilliant.

But your welcome to the Fluvals :good:

Ok Back to topic - umm just what was that again, because correct me if I'm wrong but we seem to be discussing whether or not a filter is sutible for a planted tank, only snag being that no one know exactly what the filter does.

Also pretty sure that if its a wet/dry filter they are no good for a high tech planted tank, think they reduce CO2 or something.

I'm more than happy with the 205 that came with my Roma tank, so i'll be watching this new filter with interest.
