Hi ad title days really I ave a fluval. 305 and it's only about 4 months old tops. Went to clean sponges tonight put it back together and the seal had gone in the canister I have tried Vaseline on it but that not working what can I do? Please help?

First make sure that you put it together in exactly the right way, then you can get a new o-ring for the seal. The most common reason for 305s leaking is that everything is not quite fitted properly.

It's as if the ratchet things on the sides arnt tight enough? Should I need to buy a new ring so soon?

That sounds like the top isn't sitting correctly on the bottom bit.. pull it apart, and get someone else to put it together using the instructions manual, preferably someone who has never seen a that specific filter before.. it could be as simple as the pre-filter currently being upside down or getting the top on the wrong way around so the mains lead is in the way.

No, mine was 3-4 years old when I sold it on here and the seals never needed replacing.

Also if it's only 4 months old, it is covered by the warranty still.

Right been and put a new seal in it and still same problem looked at and manual. Filled it up without any media or sponges in it is just shell and water cleaned all round org seal and top of main and still same problem. Please help my tank still has no filter

By the sounds of it, you need a new rubber gasket.

I tried that today. No difference

Hmm, is it cracked or anything?

Nope just not sitting close enough together on one side?

Sound like something is obstructing the closure, theres no dents of any kind round the rims. Can you take any pictures of both joints.

Get us a photo of what it looks like from the top before you put the top bit on and what it looks like from the side with the power cable after you put the top bit on and close it.

Looks like the baskets are not sitting straight. Could there be a bit of media on the bottom of the filter underneath them? Is the basket side the side it is leaking on?

What you side the side? No media all clean and checked?
