Fluval Edge 46

Has anyone been able to grow a carpet in a Fluval Edge 46 without resorting to CO2?

Also - can I put a heater in the filter component/section? Or, if not, does anyone know of an unobtrusive 50w heater on the UK market? It would have to be internal.

What about burying a heater in the gravel - can that be done?
