I have a five gallon Chi that has a lid, filtered and is cycled with a constant temp at around 79. It currently houses one small, male crowntail betta. I plan on getting some ghost shrimp for the bottom, and if he takes well to them, I was looking at something for the middle. I was thinking snails, but my LFS, doesn't have any and I'm really just not wiling to order them. This tank is in my kitchen, and gets two 30% water changes a week. It is planted and nitrates stay around 10-20. No ammonia or nitrites. Anyone have any suggestions? If they fight, I will just move them to my 55 gallon and them return them the next day.
Help? :)

There isnt really much room in there for anything as well as shrimp however endlers may do well

Originally in my fluval chi i was going to have:
1 betta
3 endlers
5 shrimp

but my betta didnt get along with the endlers so they went to my other tank and i now have:
1 betta
3 pygmy corydoras

Love endlers, but the only fish seller around me is Petsmart, and they don't carry them. :( lovely fish! Thought about corys, but I just don't think I could give up my shrimp. :)

No, but I do believe Petsmart has them! :) How many could go into my tank?

they are best kept in a larger group as they are shoaling fish so i would say five

Dont forget bettas dont like intruders, when they have claimed their territory! :)

If he starts to pick on them, I have another tank they can go in, and he has only been in there a few days, so hopefully he will be fine with sharing his space!

Thanks for the advice! I will look into them. :)

Galaxy rasboras?

If only I could find some.... :( I may actually see if my fish store can order some when they order my puffers for the 55gal. :) How many would fit in my tank?

Galaxy rasboras need a well planted tank or you won't see much of them.
If your Lfs gets wild caught ones they will also need soft water, captive bred ones not so much
