I have a fluval 4 plus filter and I'm looking to buy more media for it as it only came with two pads and one of those is carbon which I understand I don't need to use unless clearing up medications. I've come accross two different types of media, foam inserts and polyester pads. I'm unsure as to which I'm supposed to use and if both are needed which go where in the filter. I hope someone can help me :)
Thanx
Dani

You want the foam pads, the polyester pads sit in the middle and are an optional extra for polishing the water. :good:

I found if i added the polishing and carbon pads the performance on the filter dropped a lot, so i just use the sponge inserts.

Does anyone else find that the bottom half of the sponges get the dirtiest?

yup, cos that's where the water goes through first so all the major gunk gets caught in the bottom, then it's the bacteria colonies territory in the top of it :D

Cheers people. That makes things alot clearer. I'll get some foam pads and wait till I get my tank up, running and stocked and then decided if I need/want the polyester pads as well.
Thanx again
