Fluval 4 Carbon ? ? ?

I have a 'new' tropical set up, four ft tank, running a fluval 4.

I used the correct treatments to neutralise the chlorine etc when filling, added some filter starter stuff to help the filters establish. and have bedded plants.

I went on holiday for a week and have returned to 'yellowish' water. (which after some investigation mans I have too much organic matter and need some active carbon in my filteration.)

And also as a present from my inlaw I now have 3 goldfish.

Here's what I need to know....

Does my fulval 4 plus pump take carbon?
I have had a look and there is space inbetween the outer casing and the spongefilter casing.

Secondly, will the goldfish be ok in a tropical tank?
The water temp is at about 26/27ºC

My thanks in advance

A fluval 4+ can take foam carbon strips specifically designed for Fluvals and available from most local fish stores.

Goldfish at 26 to 27c :/ I'd say probably but you need a goldfish person rather than me. Hope you get the additional info you need.

You can get carbon for Fluval 3s but its a sponge that replaces the usual sponge filter. Someone I know cut the carbon in half and the normal sponge in half and had half of each.

to the gold fish it is unadvised as they are cold water fish
they Can live in the water buttttt...it will shorten there life span to prob half normal .

im not totaly sure why i think its to do with oxygen in tropical is diffrent to coldwater :/

I have a Fluval3 in one of my tanks and the carbon is sandwiched between the 2 sponge filters. If discoloured water is the prob try shortening the hours the lights on and clean the filter regularly.I also got 3 LARGE gold fish dumped on me in a really tiny tank.....falling over each other....I introducted them 1 at a time into my one of my tropical tanks and they are really happy....not "panting" or anything.....try it!
