Fluval 305 Leaking

hi all just wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with there 305 filter as i woke up the other night to find that my tank or filter had leaked about 7 liters to be correct and i could not find any leaks on my tank so it has to be the filter but i cant see any leaks on that either i think it could be the seal on but im not sure,if anyone has any problems what so ever let me no. plus what is the best filter to get cuz i mite change mine if this is the case thabks

tbh you only need to start typing in "fluval 305 leaking" and even google will know what you are going to put before your through typing,
The fluval externals are one to avoid in my experience but in all fairness you should be able to clearly see where it is leaking from if it is the filter?

Also was there just the one instance when it leaked? If so my suspicions would be that a fish splashed the water out of the tank or there is another explanation

i dont think it could be the fish mate as they are not that big to splash 7 liters out of the tank,my filter has not leaked that i no of and its over 3 years old. could you recommend any filters to buy

Put the filter in a bucket if possible and check to see if there is any water in the bucket while its running, then you will know if it is the filter. Did you clean out the filter before it started leaking? you may not have put the top on fully If that is the case it will be leaking from where the clips are just underneath (I have done that with my 405). Take the whole thing apart, you can use vasaline on the seal to ensure a better fit, its not harmful to the filter or fish. Next check the shut off vavle area if there is water on the top these might not be seated correctly or the seals have gone. Does your shut off valve have the flow control? there are also seals in the flow control part it could be those. Another thing check that the fittings to the pipes are tight, they can sometimes loosen.
