Fluorite Gravel?

Hello,

Quick question... Should I be changing my fluorite gravel? How often? I've had it in for about 5 years now and I would assume eventually it loses its' fertile-ness (sorry I'm not sure how else to describe it!)

It's a clay gravel so has a 'CEC' value - Meaning if you dose with ferts or even if you don't it will take on and replenish it's fertile-ness.
