Fluorescent Or Incandescent?

Florescent, hands down, is much better than incandescent. Florescent also stays nice and cool. You want to get a COMPACT florescent light fixture. A regular (one or two light tubes) fixture will not put out enough light for plants. They are expensive, but so worth it for the results you will get.

By regular fixture do you mean linear tubes? They're more efficient as more of their light can be utilised with a reflector, and one T8 running the length of any tank will give suitable light for a low light set up.

I was researching tank lighting systems, and I found this one:

for cheap. It's a t-5. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but it's compact fluorescent. Thanks for all of your help :)

29 gallons. 30 inches long, 12 inches wide, 18 inches high.

Also, does it matter if the light says "corallife" does that mean that you can only use it for marine tanks?
