I picked up a powerhead with intent to use with a diy CO2 system to help disperse my CO2 and I've put it in my tank and I'm a little worried I may have over done it.

The powerhead is a 170gph powerhead and the tank is a 29 gallon tank. Is this too much? Stock is 4 GBRs, with intentions of adding 8 red phantom tetras, 6 ottos, and 2 Electric Blue Gobys.

whats your filters turn over per hr

you want to be aiming for 10x your tanks volume

My filter is at 210 gallons per hour.. so 210+ 170 = 380. it's a 29 gallon tank.. so if I am at 13x my volume, how bad is that

It's relatively low as in if used as a filter. I wouldn't think it would cause problems with plants or fish. It wouldn't be enough (recommended 10x volume) to filter your tank ( recommended 290gp/h)

As a DIY co2 I don't know what's involved in that.

ok - I am using it in conjunction with my filter so I will have a total tank turnover of 380 gallons per hour though (and I certainly don't think I want to increase that!)

If your worried about the flow in the tank I have a 50g with a 1200lp/h + 600lph filters plus a wave maker of 2000lph so total 3800lph ( almost 1004 us gal ) . This is 20x

My fish love it. It also dosnt break my plants, does give them nice movement.

13x you should be ok with that as long as the power head is working with your filter & not against it

From what I am understanding, the power head will have no sponge on it, it is purely for the air line in.  The tank doesn't look too rough at all, I bet it will be fine!

I have a DIY CO2 setup and I use a CO2 ladder and my plants do extremely well in my tank. I have an external canister filter and UG filtration.
