hi all,
ive recently set up my new 306 filter which has got more flow than my previous aps filter.
the trouble im having is
a)the plants in my tank are predominantly on the same side the outlet comes from and is forcing the cabomba down into the mid region of the tank.
b)my discus are all congregating under the plants, under the outlet pipe
unfortunately i have to have the uplift pipe on the opposite side so was wondering if it is essential to have the pipes at opposite ends of the tank or will the filter work effectively with the pipes on the same side
thanks

Ideally you want the inlet and outlet pipes separated by the greatest distance to ensure the best flow throughout the tank. If you can't move the uplift pipe can you perhaps relocate the Cabomba and whatever else to the opposite side of the tank?

ok thanks for the info will rework and tweek a few things

I have my tank set up with the inlet pipe located pretty close to the outlet pipe of my Fluval 206. I placed these on the left of the tank and faced the outlet pipe to the right, down the back of the tank. I then use a koralia circulation pump on the right to move the water from the top right and the front of the tank, back towards the opposite end where the inlet pipe can suck up any debris, so on and so forth. Nothing seems too powerful in mine and I'm not having any issues :) plants are moving but not vigorously. They move very very gently which lets me know I've got some flow in the areas of the tank I have plants in. You can reduce the flow on the '06 Fluval canister filters by lifting the the thinner lever (not the one to disconnect the inlet and outlet pipes, the smaller one above that). Don't lift it all the way, you can damage the impeller and will just end up cutting the water off altogether. Try half-way at first and go from there. :good:

My Fluval Vicenza tank is made with the inlet and outlet pipes built in and they are at the same end of the tank - doesn't seem to be a problem.

I have a Fluval Roma with the same set up and I had the same question. I thought about using a longer pipe and a spray bar at the opposite end of the tank but in the end I just got a powerhead and moved the water around that way. The Clown Loaches love a bit of a flow so it is good for them.
