I read at plantgeek that excel will melt anacharis, vallisneria contortionist and corkscrew. Are there others that it isn't safe with?
I thought it was good for plants. Why does it kill them?
It only melts the those plants if you over-dose, as people frequently do to get rid of algae. I use it in my main tank and my anacharis is 100% fine and growing extremely fast .
I did a search ont he forum you mentioned and it says that although it MAY, not garunteed, melt vals etc they normally grow back stronger. It is believed to be a cellular thing, in that they cannot utilise the excel so they die back and then grow back again in a different cellular form to enable them to use the excel. Thats the idea i got from seachems response to that question. Very interesting actually.
