I have a 30 gal. with sand substrate and a 6000k light on it. I bought 4 low light plants and all seem to be doing well except for one that is loosing several leaves a day and pretty wilty.

I bought some Flourish Excel yesterday and wanted to know what you think of it ? I looked up on internet and some people said they thought it caused their tank to get hair algae.

Any other supplements I should be using ? I have no clue what I am doing.

Also, I have 2 HOB filters which cause alot of water movement and airation. Should I remove one of them ?

Thanks !

Excell is supposed to get rid of hair alga as it is a form of co2, you should be dosing some trace elements like an all in one of the shelf product at least, you can dose both. If you can turn the output of the HOB filters down then that would help, but if the plants do not need co2 then leave them. Do you know the species?

The plants are:

Broad Leaf Ludwigia
Golden Lloydelia
Cryptocoryne Lutea
Green Lloydelia

It is the Ludwigia that isn't doing too well. I am worried it is going to clog the filter while I am not home. Should I remove it ? Maybe cut it down to the roots and see if it grows back ???
